Don’t Let Diabetes Harm Your Eyesight
Diabetes can impact the eyes in many ways.
The longer you have diabetes, the more at risk you are for diabetic retinopathy.
Diabetic Macular Edema
Those with severe diabetic retinopathy might experience swelling and fluid build-up in the macula. This is called diabetic macular edema. The macula is responsible for your central vision, so diabetic macular edema can inhibit your ability to read, drive, or recognize faces.
Both diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema cause severe vision loss. These conditions must be detected and treated in their early stages to minimize irreversible damage.
